Decorating your uni room...

Its important at uni to make your room feel homely seeing as you'll spend a large amount of your time in it. Its also a social space where friends will come drop in on you. It can be an extension of you and can be seen as a good indicator of who you are therefore the right decorations are key.
You'll spend a lot of time in bed, mainly curing those dreaded but inevitable hangovers, therefore it might as well be comfortable. Invest in some bright bedding to add colour to your room, ikea has a great selection of cheap but good quality bedding. Add a few cushions and a throw to give it a homely edge, primark has a great selection.
The majority of your uni room will be blank walls so add some personality with photos. There's so many websites offering free prints such as snapfish which is a great way to get started. Dedicate your wall to friendly faces from home but save some space for photos of your new uni friends. Tumblr is a great place to get photos of things your interested in. Gift wrap can be used as an alternative to wall paper, paperchase is brilliant for this.

Bunting is another great way of spicing up those blank walls or bookcases. Ebay is great for this as many people make and sell there own. If your willing to spend a little extra, check out cath kidston for some floral prints.

Lighting is an important way to add warmth to your room especially if like me you like to keep your curtains closed for privacy. A simple desk lamp is great for working and late night reading, whereas fairy lights give your room a cute edge and are perfect for mood lighting while watching films or having sleep overs.
Old coke bottles are great for hanging jewellery, putting battery powered fairy lights in them makes an original lamp. Why not wrap them up in patterned fabric for decoration or fill them with water and use them as a vase.

Utilising storage space is essential. Invest is laundry bag, even if it is just an ikea bag. Storage for under your bed is great for those supplies of loo roll and toiletries. A trunk for essential food is great especially with drunk nibblers around in the kitchen. Fill it with essentials such as tea, coffee, biscuits, chocolate, cereal and alcohol.
Finally, decorate room to reflect your personality and make it your own little sanctuary away from the hectic life as a student. Here's some photos of how other people have decorated their rooms for some inspiration.
